Mine Facilities, Coal Handling Structures, and Supyort Facilities
The mine facilities consist of a shaker conveyor with connected
hopper and associated bins, storage shed, exhaust fan, portable water
tank, and transformer and utility lines. These facilities are
discussed in Section 2.05.3 of the permit application and depicted on
Map No. 1 - Mine Surface and Hydrology Map.
B. Roads
There are two combination haul/access roads to be utilized in the
proposed permit area. Both of these roads have been in existence for
some time as mining first commenced at this site around 1950. For
the purpose of consistency, the roads can be designated as the
northwest road and the northeast road. The northwest road leads
directly from La Plata County Road 120 across Hay Gulch to the mine
bench. The northeast road leads from National King Coal, Inc.'s,
access/haul road to the mine bench. Information oertainino to these
two roads is located in Section 4.03 of the per;nit application and
are depicted on Map No. 1 - Mine Surface and Hydrology Map.
C. Ponds, Imooundments, and Diversions
During the adequacy review process, the Division assisted 81ue Flame
in the design of the sediment pond, upland diversion ditches (east
and west), and drainage ditches. The pond is designed to handle the
10 year - 24 hour storm event. Due to the small dimensions of this
pond, there is only an emergency spillway with no principal
spillway. The applicant has committed to pumping the pond to
maintain the 10 year - 24 hour storm event capacity. 7o determine
sediment level, the applicant has committed to installing a staff
gauge and cleaning the pond at the 60 percent sediment level.
All drainage ditches leading to the sediment pond and the upslope
diversion ditches (east and west) have been designed to handle the 10
year - 24 hour storm event.
The applicant is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
_pp_
