•

The lands would stay under the present land uses, which are
primarily wildlife habitat and livestock grazing. the only public
• surface within the proposed lease areas is within T. 4 N., R. 87 W.,
Sec. 23. All other surface is in private ownership.
• B. The Getty Alternative
Under the Getty Alternative, the surface mineable Federal coal
• underlying the lands identified as the Little Middle Creek area
would be leased. Issuing coal lease application C-40672 would allow
the recoverable coal in this specific area to be surface mined
• through the existing mining sequence.
The Little Middle Creek area encompasses part of an existing seam
• specific lease, C-22644 for the Wadge and any overlying seams. An
environmental assessment was completed on October 30, 1978 for
surface coal leasing, on the existing lease area, during the leasing
• process for lease application C-22644. The analysis of the Getty
Alternative assesses the impacts of leasing and development of the
Wadge and Wolf Creek coal seams both on the leased and unleased
• portions of the Little Middle Creek area.
The assumptions and analysis guidelines used under this alternative
• are as follows.
1. One development scenario would be assessed, an
• extension of existing surface mine. This will involve
all of the Little Middle Creek area (1,045.90 acres).
E-7
0001E
• 08/15/85
