This would result in no
development of the Federal coal on these lands and no associated
surface disturbance. This alternative could shorten the life of the
existing mine, and the unleased Federal coal in these areas could be
bypassed. The recoverable Federal coal that would be bypassed under
this alternative would total 16,066,600 tons in both the Little
Middle and Fish Creek areas. These areas encompass the remaining
surface mineable coal in the area. There are not sufficient
quantities of unleased surface mineable coal left in the area for
the existing company to come back and mine economically, nor a new
company to come in at a later date.
E-6
0001E
08/15/85
