W alcher <br />Executive Direuor <br />Michael B Long <br />Dw~s~on Direuor <br />I have reviewed the responses to each of the eight questions we had in order to make a decision to <br />extend the now expired Lorencito mine permit. Our original questions aze shown below in italics. <br />I) Due to several factors, including extensive methane development now occurring within the <br />Lorencito Canyon Mine permit area, major changes to the permit will be required if the <br />Lorencito Cativott Mine is to proceed. A Permit Revision will be required if an extension is <br />granted. Please provide a proposed timeline for Permit Revision st+bmiltal. <br />Response <br />The applicant confirmed that a permit revision would be necessary. They are in the process <br />of developing a new plan. This revision would be submitted by Mazch 1, 2001. I believe <br />this response is adequate. <br />2) Please also provide a general description of tl:e revised mine plan 1ltat will be necessary if <br />the Lorencito Carryon Mine proceeds. Would surface raining be eliminated from the <br />currently approved plan if the project goes forward? <br />Response <br />/ The applicant indicated surface mining would not be eliminated and a general description of <br />the mine plan will be submitted by March 1, 2001. Based on additional information <br />provided in our meeting with the applicant, I believe this response is adequate. <br />j) The railroad line located in the Pnrgntnire Valley is a key component of any coal mining in <br />the area. We understand that dte railroad was sold to n Utah entity known as A & K <br />
