Thereafter, the area will be
graded and smoothed over, top soil redistributed and readied for revegitation.
See attached diagrams.
(G) Grading and Backfilling. After the surface facilities
dismantled and removed, the top la}~ers (from zero to twelve inches)
shale, sandstone and other soils, will be scraped and graded into a
backfilling the mine portals. Those materials which are not suit
reseeding can best be handled by its removal off the mine bench rb
burying the pile under amended top soil.
After the portals are backfilled and sealed, the

will be backfilled and top soiled to approximate the original 3:] slopei
the permitted areas affected are less than three acres, excluding the
roads, a foreign, but acceptable, top soil material will be acquired 1
of several sand and gravel producers in the area.
(H) Top Soil Dispursement and Gradinq. Development of a vigorous grass dominated ~ivegeta-
tion cover of premoninately natives, including some shrubs and trees will
restore the general character of the vegetation to that found in the mine plan
area. The projected relatively open vegetation will increase structural diver-
sity in the immediate vicinity and probably will enhance the suitability of the
area as wildlife habitat. Grazing will be prevented in the reclaimed area
until it has been demonstrated to the satisfaction of the Division that~vegeta-
tion on the reclaimed surface is adequately established and could be expected
to withstand grazing. A vigorous plant cover will protect soil from erosion,
maintained surface water quality, and minimize degradation of air quality due
to fugitive dust.
,~
