Maximum use of
equipment would be to use five scrapers and one D-9H. This would allow
enough time for the D-9H to maneuver to assist each scraper.
The following are the equipment costs for a 631 D scraper and a D-9H dozer.
The monthly rental for a 631 D scraper (pg. 9-73, BB) is $15,845 with an oper-
ating cost of $45.45 per hour. The location adjustment factor (l 0E) brinos
the monthly rental rate to $17,429.50. The hourly rental cost, usino a 21
day week and 8 hour day, would be $103.75. The hourly operating cost would
be $149.20.
The monthly rental rate for a D-9H dozer (pg. 9-92 BB) is $19,200, with an
hourly operating cost of 538.25. Adjusting for the l0E location factor,
the monthly rental cost is $15,620. This translates to a hourly rental of
592.98 and a hourly operating cost of $92.98 + 38.25 = 5131.23.
Each scraper could move 255 yd3 per 50 minute working hour. Therefore, it
would take 177 scraper hours to move 45,189 yd3 of topsoil. This would
translate to 35 hours working time with 5 scrapers.
The following is the cost breakdown for this portion of the operation:
5 - 631D Caterpillar scrapers: 177 hours P $149.20/hr. _ $24,408
I - D-9H Dozer: 35 hours (~ $131.23/hr. = 4,593
6 - Operators: 212 hours R $ 15.00/hr. = 3,180
TOTAL COST $34,181
REVECETATION OF PITS 5 AND 6
The revegetation cost of $325/acre is accepted by the Division. This estimate
closely agrees with the Division's estimate based on the revegetation plan in
the application. The cost for revegetatiog the 20 acres of pits 5 and 6 is:
56,500
RECLAMATION OF SPOIL PILE 1
Twenty acres must be ripped, using a D-9H with a 90 single shank ripper.
Ripping to a depth of 2 feet would mean that 64,533 BCY have to be ripped.
The figure of I,250 BCY per hour submitted by the applicant is about the
average as shown on page 6I of the Cat handbook. However, this assumes 100E
efficiency. Based on a 50 minute work hour production would be 1040 BCY per
hour. Therefore, 62 hours would be revuired to complete this operation.
The cost breakdown for ripping is as follows:
I - D-9H Dozer: 62 hours @ $131.23/hr. _ $8,136
1 - Operator: 62 hours @ $ 15.00/hr. = 930
TOTAL COST $9,066
Following ripping, topsoil will be replaced on the 20 acres to a depth of 1.4
feet. This results in 45,173 yd3 of topsoil being moved. The average haul
