TBbf should consider this list at a minimum in their application. <br />a) Impacts to local and regional aquifers by dewatering, recharging, <br />affecting quality, or destruction. Aquifers identified and considered <br />need not be developed, The threshold yield usually considered is about 0.5 <br />gallons/minute. <br />b) Impacts to seeps and springs should be included. These water sources <br />may affect base flow in sterams or could even be developed for stockwater <br />needs. <br />c) Short-term and Long-term impacts to recharge rates by increasing or <br />decreasing recharge area, permeability or water source. <br />d) Effects on surface water from leachate of refuse piles. <br />e) Effects of placing ponds over backfilled spoil areas. Percolation of <br />water from the bottom of the pond through the spoils may change its quality. <br />How does this amount of water compare with hhe overall water budget? <br />f) Increases in sediment or changes in salt loading from roads, diversions, <br />or mine water pumped to streams, <br />g) Surface water will impound within the sediment storage volume of ponds <br />and evaporate. This water will not be available for downstream use. Xow <br />significant is this Loss of water - quantify, Will mining tend to increase <br />or decrease runoff rates from reclaimed areas? Now does this affect the <br />hydrologic balance? <br />h) Will diversion of water within the watershed affect the natural <br />equilibrium of the Canyon channel o.r any of its tributaries? Will roads or <br />diversions affect erosion at discharge points? <br />i) What are the ionic characteristics of springs, seeps, ground water <br />and surface water flow? Xow do they compare? Will water exposure to <br />bedrock, refuse, or backfilled spoi.i change the ionic balance of the water? <br />What is the magnitude and significance of the change? <br />j) Are any mining operation structures within the floodplain (100 yr.)of <br />the Canyon that would cause damage to the hydrologic environment? <br />(Refuse pile, coal stockpiles, clams, etc. are of primary concern.) <br />k) Are any wells nearby that could be affected by changes in water quality <br />or quantity? <br /> <br />
