Dept. of ~~atoral ~escuce~
RE: Sheridan Enterprises, Inc.; Munger Canyon Permit Application
Dear Plr. Shelton:
After reviewing excerpts from the above referenced permit application, this
Department considers the following items to be important in ,your review of
this application.
1. A copy of the application has not been filed with the Mesa County Clerk.
2. The permit term requested is for five years, but the permit issued to
Sheridan Enterprises, Inc. by Mesa County for their I_oadout Facility
near Loma will expire December 31, 1984.
3. Item 2.2.7. of the narrative indicates a maximum storage capacity of\
4,000 tons. The permit issued by Ilesa County limits the storage to
2,000 tons. /"
4. Item 2.1. of the narrative states that maximum annual production is
estimated to be 847,000 tons. Tt is most probable that this level of
production will require an increased workforce. A workforce of 50 or
100 persons would not create an impact on Mesa County as a single
entity, but if these workers should locate in the Loma area, population
increases of 20+ percent would create some severe impacts. In addition,
there are three other projects anticipated in the same area. It
would be of immense benefit to Mesa County and the citizens of Loma
to be apprised of anticipated impacts due to this mining project.
Therefore, this Department requests that a condition of the permit
require that a more complete socio-economic assessment on Loma and
Mesa County be completed on or before the workforce exceeds 100 persons.
~ ---
Sincerely, ,y~ ~ ~ -_
Raymond J Gronwall
Comprehensive planner
RJG/mm
