October 5 regarding preservation of sharp tail grouse
1 strut-tiny grounds aL- the II-G Coal Company mine site (Yampa
I
Dlining Company-operators), Flayden, Colorado. H-G had
~ previously been made aware of the importance of preserving
'' the strutting grounds by Tom Henry, but precise locations
had not been deFined. Your information described a typical
location as being a grassy area relatively free of shrubs,
~ located at the top of a hill which would provide good
visibility for ttie birds. Accordingly, we ]gave selected a
site for construction of. an explosive storage builcliny in a
depression surrounded on three sides by hills which would
fall outside your description. The enclosed map shows the
site location selected and the access road leading to it.
This latter information caas submitted to the Colorado Mined
Land Reclamation Board and approved by them at their meeting
of October 26, 1978.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Yours truly,
C.C.
