2.10 F171PS nND PLANS <br />The applicant must submit a map showing the location and extent of <br />known workings of active, inactive or abandoned underground mines, mine <br />openings to the surface and previously surface mined areas within the <br />proposed permit area. Information on abandoned mines is available from <br />the Colorado Division of Mines (Z.10.3(1J(kj). <br />SOCIOECONOMICS <br />TO comply with the National Environmental Policy Act, OSM must do a <br />socioeconomic assessment of the potential impact of the operation of the <br />Empire Energy mine on surrounding communities. nlthougl~ the mine is an <br />existing operation, the following information would be useful to OSM's <br />assessment: <br />I. Number of mining employees (construction, if any, and operation) 6y <br />year for the life of the mine and how they (generally) commute to <br />work, i.e., car pool, private auto, company bus, etc. Also, any <br />information on average annual income of employees would be useful. <br />2. Any socioeconomic assessment, surveys, etc., that the company has <br />participated in or is aware of relating tt~c mine to surrounding <br />cormnuni ti es . <br />3. Any information the company may have concerning whew existing <br />and/or future employees may reside. <br />4. Any data the company can provide concerning the tax revenues <br />contributed to the local and regional economy. <br />It also would be helpful if the company would provide oSM with documentation <br />of any past and/or future contributions or assistance given to communities <br />surrounding the mine (e.g., financial contributions, employee transportation <br />system, housing assistance to employees, etc.). <br />_lq_ <br />
