~ ,
Mr. Dean Massey
March 15, 1978
Page Five
The diversion ditch has been designed and w111.be
constructed in a manner which will prevent additionalcon-
tributions of suspended solids to the stream flow. TFne entire
ditch will be revegetated and the low flow structures will have
riprap or other rouf, hness features co reduce vel.ocit~~:
Maintenance will he performed on a regular basis. CWI views
this diversion structure as meting the requirements of a
permanent diversion as described in 717.17 (c) (2) and would
hope that the structure can be approved as a permanentG feature
on the landscape. However, CWI also realizes that during the
life of the mine, additional sedimentation data will be
gathered as will data on the effectiveness of the stricture.
Based on this additional information, CldI,in consultation
coith the regulatory authorities, could at the end of tfhe mining
operation decide whether or not the structure should.iemain
as a permanent feature. With this flexibility built in, a
decision could be made based upon actual historical data.
Section 717.17 (h) Ground Water Systems -
Results of drilling in the area have indicated that
the probability of CWI encountering water in its mining process
is very low. however, CWI intends to monitor ground J~ater at
two well sites. The two sites arc designated on revised Map C-1
"Affected Land and Surface Facilities". (Attached)
Sectuon 717.18 Dams Constructed of or Impounding Waste
Material -
CWI will construct no dams using waste material. The
sedimentation ponds will be constructed with concrete and metal.
(For specifications of these dams, see Detail R on Plate 1,
Exhibit G.)
Section 717.20 Topsoil handling and Revegetation -
All areas to he disturbed will have topsoil removed
as required in Section 717.20. The topsoil will be segregated,
stockpiled, and protected from wind and water erosionl The
final reclamation and abandonment maps (attached) show the
location of long term topsoil stockpiles. These piles will be
planted with a quick growing cover to prevent erosion and
vegetation will be maintained on the stockpiles during the life
of the mine. After cessation of mining, the topsoil stockpiles
will be spread out over the affected areas and revegetated.
i ~
1,~~~ ~~~~ Is~~~ll~~;~~~ 1 ~ i~
