e
Mr. Dan P4atthews Page No. 4
October 29, 1981
Calcium Copper
Chloride Lead
Fluoride Plercury
Manganese Molybdenum
Nitrate/Nitrogen Nickel
Phosphorus Selenium
Potassium Zinc
An analytical interpretation of these parameters will be made to
predict any possibility of acid or toxic-forming materials.
General Hydrology
As we discussed, both the area planned for new surface support
facilities and portions of the "B" and "C" Coal Seams have been
previously disturbed and mined. Because of the past mining and
disturbance to the area, virgin hydrologic conditions do not
exist. Regardless, no water has been flowing from the abandoned
portals of the previous mining. On a recent inspection of the
underground workings, no water was found. Since the mine had been
active since 1934 and the coal dips upward away from the portals,
any disruption of current hydrologic regime would have been noted.
Likewise, any groundwater encountered would certainly have drained
from the mine especially since the mine was opened in 1934.
Bear Coal Company will plan to install one alluvial well in the
vicinity of the surface support structures. No disruption of the
groundwater regime is expected in this area because there is no
subsurface disturbance. However, the Colorado P1ined Land Reclamation
Division feels that one well would point out any potential disruptions
caused by surface facilities.
Alluvial Valley Floors
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamtion Division stated that no alluvial
valley floors existed in the vicinity of the Bear No. 3 Portals.
Further downstream of Somerset, where the river valley widens, the
Division has determined that there is an AVF. No impacts on the AVF
are anticipated by the relocation of the Bear support facilities.
Waiver From Nearby Residents
Because of the proximity of the Bear fdo. 3 Portals and surface
facilities to the Town of Somerset, a waiver from nearby residents
will be received for inclusion in the upcoming permit revision.
A Q ~ ure.
