The powder magazine was built in the fall of 1978 when Grand Mesa
Coal Company planned to use conventional mining. The building is
a cinderbrick structure dug into the hill. The cap magazine consists
of a ventilated old safe closed with two pad lochs. Grand Mesa
Coal Coiapany inspects the powder magazine quarterly.
