For example,
alluvial monitoring holes A-1 and A-2 had static +•rater levels
of 13.2 feet and 21.1 feet, respectively (depth to water from
top of casing). It is surmised that water levels are currently
at their highest level with snotr<nelt runoff conditions and
the measurements occurring prior to the gro~•~ing season.
2. From field observations, the extent of agriculturally useful
species which are subirrigated appears to be very limited.
Vegetation on the relatively thin Tl terrace of 4!a rd and
llilliams Creeks is predominately brush and trees with some
grasses. Examples of vegetation collected at four sites
include the folio+~ring:
Site -1 - upstream of northern flume on hard Creek
- Kinickinic-upland plant (gro+•is generally in relation to
granite under pine)
- Carex sp.-phreatophyte
Grand Mesa Coal Company File
Dan B. Kimball~(~-
April 6, 1982
COPIES
EXTENT OF SUBIRRIGATION ADJACENT TO 4JILLIAMS AND b1.4RD CP,EEY,S At•JD
NEED FOR TEST PITS
Based on reconnaissance-level field investigations of vegetation and
landform conducted on March 25 & 26, 1982, it is recommended at this
time that test pits not be installed at various points along I•Jilliams
Creek and l•lard Creek to study subirrigation for the reasons noted
below. (The piezometers to be installed along the road west of
Brimstone Corner and as more detailed vegetation survey will provide
information to make more definitive conclusions as to the extent and
importance of subirrigation.)
Site =2 - adjacent to 41ard Creek on Tl terrace north of
road (east-+•rest road at Brimstone Corner)
- Sno+~~berry
- Juniper
- Big Sage
12
