-3-
2.04.7(1)
1. Not all of the six Salt Creek ground water monitoring wells are indicated in
Figure 4.2-2. The applicant should show where Ground water Monitoring Station
No. 6 is located on this figure. In addition, there was a discrepancy in the
locations of several ground water monitoring stations (Nos. 3,4 and 6) in
Figures 4.2-2 and 4.2-3 of the original application. The applicant needs to
clarify the present location of these ground water monitoring stations on an
updated map.
2. The applicant should specifically indicate vrhat the water levels were in
each of the ground water monitoring stations corresponding to the dates of
water quality analysis in Tables 4.2-1 through 4.2-5. Recording the water level
is a necessary component in the collection g~g'water ryua]~ty_ data.
3. On page 4-12, the applicant concluded that "within the Mesaverde Formation
as exposed in the study area there are no known major aquifers with substantial
yields of ground water". However, this conclusion is based on only five drill
hole , es in one=sp~ca-f_i:c-l.o.ca.ti:on of the permit area. The applicant must
characterize with appropriate data the eastern and northern portions of the
VI~0.j ~cch+~°„permit area where coal mining will occur. Once this baseline information is
adequate, the applicant should be able to discuss more accurately how mining
SPe~~~Y i^``"~ activities will impact aquifers with respect to water quality, quantity, and
the effect upon recharge capacity in the permit and adjacent areas.
5. The applicant should specify which exploration boreholes confirm the conditions
referenced on page 4-13, paragraph 3. w4w~
6. According to 2.04.6(7)(a), the geology description shall include the first~~ ~f~~~
aquifer below the lowest coal seam to be mined (i.e., the Cameo Coal seam). ~
~~ Only one hole has been documented (7-21-1, in Figure 2.5-2) as being drilled in
~~ ~°,~ the permit area down to include this underlying potential aquifer.
