The application should also be revised to discuss the potential vegetation
including the productivity of the area before any mining, expressed as
the average yeild of fiber (i.e., pounds, herbage per acre) from
similar sites. This yield data can be obtained from estimates for
similar sites based on current data from the USDA, SCS(range site
descriptions), or other agricultural agencies.
Rydrology Description - Rule 2.09.7
Due to the proximity of the proposed Bear No. 3 surface facilities
to the town of Somerset, the applicant should provide information on
the presence of any domestic wells in the area within and adjacent to
the proposed surface facilities area. This information should include
depth to water and average yield.
The groundwater regime of the North Fork of the Gunnison River alluvium
in the area of the proposed Bear No. 3 surface facility needs to be
adequately defined and evaluated prior to Division approval of the permit
revision application. The type of information necessary in order to
make such an evaluation must include:
1. Depth below surface and horizontal extent of groundwater;
2. Recharge, storage, and discharge characteristics of the alluvial aquifer;
3. Groundwater chemistry for the parameters listed in attached Appendix A,
Baseline Water Quality Monitoring or other monitoring program based on
sufficient evidence presented by the applicant.
The gathering and submittal of this information in sufficient detail
will entail the installation of four groundwater monitoring wells,
located as follows:
1. Norhteast corner of the permit area near the proposed transformer
location.
2. Northwest portion of the permit area, due west of the silo Location
and due north of the proposed sediment pond location.
3. Southwest portion of the surface facilities area, approximately
150' due south of the proposed sediment pond location.
9. Extreme western portion of the proposed permit area, located approximately
150' southeast of the junction of the mine access road and state
highway No. 133 on the north side of the river.
Eash well must be sampled for water quality and the sampling results
included in the permit application. In addition, the applicant will
need to conduct a pump test from one of the monitoring well holes in
order to adequately define aquifer characteristics. The results of this
test should be submitted in a form which can he included in the permit
application. The Locations of these wells need to be shown on Drawing
2.04.7(1) (a) (i)-1.
It is unclear from the information presented in the permit revision
application what the source of water will be before use in the proposed
Bear No. 3 mining operation. The source of this water reeds to be
stated in the application, including an indication as to whether a
right to this water has been obtained or applied for from the Colorado
Division of Water Resources.
