Page 2
H-G Preliminary Adequa cy Review
2.04.5 General Description of Hydrology and Geology
The second paragraph of your response to Sections 1, 2, and
3 states that the drainages of the project area are shown on
the map (Figure i). The three streams that are spoken of are,
in fact, not delineated on the map. Please provide this

v~04.6 ~~ information on the map. Also provide a key for Figure 1.
Geology Description
s
`~
It appears that the legend on Exhibit B-B explaining the symbols
for Trout Creek and Twenty-mile sandstone outcrops are reversed.
~
~04.6(1)(a)(i) ;, Please correct this error.
A geologic map with cross-sections must be submitted that
~' shows the nature, depth and thickness of the coal seams to
~, be mined, rider seams and overburden, interburden and under-
~`
burden.

2,:04.6(1)(a)(ii) Please include strike and dip of the coal on a map and the
location of any faults in the area.

2.04.6(1)(b)(i) It is not clear whether test borings and/or core samples were
collected and analyzed down to the stratum immediately below
\i the lowest coal seam to be mined. Please clarify. Also
provide a sampling location map, sampling intervals and litho-
logic logs of these test borings and/or cores.
2.04.6(I)(b)(i)(a) Please give specific locations on a map and on cross-sections ~
which show where subsurface water zones are encountered.
2.04.6(1)(b)(i)(c) Physical properties of each stratum within the overburden
and interburden must be discussed. Shale is the only material
presently addressed. Also drill hole data must be well coor-
dinated with corresponding map locations so that the spatial
nature of these strata can be interpreted.
2.04.6(1)(b)(i)(d) It is not clear in Appendix D-1 if the applicant has completed

/ chemical and physical analyses for each stratum of the over-
\ burden, interburden, and underburden. Please clarify. Also,
testing that is reported does not include all the required
parameters. Those items not included in the test reports are:
Total Combustible Solids (for carbonaceous materials), percent
sulfate and organic sulfur in inter- and underburden, fluoride,
phte, total carbonate, texture, mercury and chloride.
~ P eaT se submit these analyses.
~2.04.6(I)(b)(i)(e) Analysis of the coal seam should include pyrite content.
