OREfeODIES 'AND ORES. ,'~. <br />~ _ The ore. occurs. in ore shoots, in fissure veins, _ <br />' there being two veins here undor consideration: <br />The Old Town vein, hoe & general strike 'of 5N,.60° _ <br />I! <br />%E, dip of 45 o_to the N~W,'and width varying from:2 to z. <br />E ,12 ft, with e general average of 4 ft. <br />~ The l4autauga vein, has a strike of N~ 68o E, and dip <br />,of 75° to the S. E. and a general average width of 3-1~2 ft: <br />' The wautauga loins the Old Town vein on its dip, <br />betvreen the 6th and 7th levels Old Town. <br />The vein filling is that of a quartzose and felds- <br />pathic mixture, impregnated vrith gold bearing iron and <br />cop»er-pyriteg with streaks of the latter carrying gray <br />,oopper. <br />' There are three ore shoots; one knov{n as the shaft <br />j sore shoot, 300 ft, in width, extending from the surface to <br />the bottom of the Old Town shaft; one known as the vrest <br />;ore shoot, ct~ught on the 6th level west, and extending <br />sweat to surface, and the Wautauga ore shoot, contiguous <br />',to the t4autauga shaft. ' <br />The smelting ore consists of iron and copper pyrites, <br />i , <br />'carrying gray copper, The concentrating ore, ooneists <br />lof a quartzose and feldepathio material, impregnated with <br />,iron and copper pyrites. <br />
