TABLE TWO -- LAS ANIMAS COUNTY <br />MINE NAME COMMENTS ON FEATURES _ __` <br />Southwestern Z: Mining two beds, Empire (356,305) and L. Robinson (4,575). <br />Reclamation scheduled for Spring 1984: Backfill the two adits at the Southwestern Mine <br />using a graded fill -- may be required to place an adequate amount of riprap into the <br />opening. Regrade borrowed waste pile area, rip compacted work areas. <br />Starkville *: (1958 opening) <br />Two horizontal openings and one vertical opening. One ad it is 6' high, 10' wide, and more <br />than 100' long. The other ad it is 4' high, 5' wide and of unknown length. Locked wire <br />mesh doors are effective access deterrents for both ad its. The air shaft is 5' by 7' and <br />more than 50' deep and is located in the western end of a somewhat intact air fan housing. <br />No effective access deterrent. <br />Reclamation completed 1983. Reclaim the large spoil pile at the Starkville Mine by <br />removing the pile from the nearby drainage area and hauling the material to an old contour <br />strip pit located approximately 0.7 miles to the south. The western ad it is 3' high, 6' wide, and more than 30' long, <br />No. 4 the ad it just to the east is 3' high, 6' wide, and more than 60' in length. Further east <br />is an ad it 3' high, 5' wide, and 50' in length. The easternmost ad it is about 2' high, <br />2' wide, and of unknown length. No effective access deterrents. <br />Sunlight *: Horizontal opening. Just northeast of the Sunlight Mine. Opening is 0.5' high, 3.5' <br />wide, and more than 20' long.
