TABLE TWO -- LAS ANIMAS COUNTY <br />MINE NAME COMMENTS ON FEATURES <br />Brodhead Reclamation late 1982: ad its closed by controlled blasting techniques; No. 9 airshaft <br />Nos. 3, 4, 9 was backfilled by first placing laryer diameter riprap into the bottom of each opening <br />followed by coal waste material to complete the fills. Work areas were ripped to alleviat <br />compaction. Revegetation work for all mines will be completed in Fall of 1983. <br />F: Reference 2 notes a mine fire in 1907. <br />Coked ale *: Vertical opening. Air shaft is 12'x12'x40' deep and is located in eastern end of concrete <br />Nos. 1, 2 air fan housing. Barbed wire fence across western end of air fan housing is not an <br />effective deterrent. <br />This shaft was safeguarded in mid-1983 by installation of a steel grate over the vertical <br />opening. <br />Cokedale (East) Reclamation plans scheduled for Spring, 1984. The project area consists <br />of a single problem area containing a large burning coal waste pile. The specific work <br />envisioned for this project involves excavating and extinguishing the burning portion of <br />the pile followed by regrading the pile into two adjacent depressions. Any marketable <br />coal remaining in the pile which can be feasibly processed out will be recovered prior <br />to the backfilling operation. following completion of the backfilling operation, the <br />regraded areas will be covered with a layer of soil material suitable for plant growth <br />and revegetated with rangeland grasses. The seeded areas will be fenced off until the <br />vegetation can withstand grazing pressure. <br />Colorado *: Two horizontal openings. One adit is 3' high, 8' wide, and more than 50' long. The other <br />Canyon ad it is 5' high, 4' wide, and of unknown length.
