<br />GEOLOGY, <br />There is no .good Geologioal Survey of the dietriot, <br />.The oountry rock consists of a gneissic, or banded <br />granite, cut by a fissure vein;_syatem having a general <br />noxth easterly and south westerly course, <br />ORE BODIES, <br />The are bodies ooour in shoots in fissure veins, <br />The Shatter-Fairmount vein, has a strike N. 45° <br />E, and a dip varying from 65, to 90 degrees to the N,W, <br />Width varies from 2, to 6 ft, with an average <br />of 3 Pt, <br />The vein filling oonsista of a quartzoae and <br />feldepathio mixture, impregnated with gold bearing, <br />iron and oopper pyrites, and email amount of galena. <br />Solid etrea]ce of copper and iron pyrites, known <br />as smelting ore, eoconipany the above, <br />All of th:e vein material, other than the smelting <br />ore, is shipped to the Hudson Mill as milling ore, <br />There are three ore shoots, one west of the shaft, <br />extending from the surface to the 700 ft, level, and two <br />east o~ the shaft. <br /> <br />
