TABLE TWO -- HUERFANO COUNTY
MINE NAME COMMENTS ON FEATURES
Calumet No. 2 S: Large subsidence pit about 60' in diameter and 50' deep.
*: Two inclined openings, each about 4' high, 6' wide and unknown length. Both are enclosed
in housings with unlocked doors and access deterrence is poor.
In Spring 1983 a large subsidence feature was backfilled using riprap and spoil material
from a nearby waste pile. The waste pile was subsequently regraded and topsoiled. Two
concrete lined inclines were grated shut, and several open steel doors to a fan house were
welded shut to prevent access into the underground workings. Will be revegetated and
fenced Fall of 1983.
Cameron S: Southwest of the Cameron Mine openings, four subsidence pits 20'-30' across and 5' deep
in a north-south line.
Subsidence area southwest of Cameron Mine in Bear Creek valley floodplain. Contains about
30 subsidence pits 20'-30' in diameter and 5'-10" in depth. Erosion and dense vegetation
camouflages these pits to some extent.
Z: The Cameron mine is located in a seam above the workings of the Robinson Mine; there may
be some duplication in noted coal tonnages of these two mines.
Carbonado *: Northwest of the Carbonado Mine opening in SE 1/4 of to NE 1/4 of Sec. 26. Vertical
(Morning Glory) opening. Air shaft is 20' across and 30' deep; barbed wire fence around opening is
(Vesta No. 2) inadequate deterrent.
Key to unique features symbols:
Reclamation and/or plans -- Table Two
lists hazard abatement work
+ Discrepancy between two sources
Z Multiple mining zones
* Mine opening information
S Subsidence features
F Mine fires
D Mine drainage
-28-
