MINING AND: MINE METHODS. <br />The main pante shaft is 3-1/2' Ti 7" in the clear, it <br />is timbered to the fourth level with cribl;ing, and from <br />the fourth to the bottom level with square sets. There <br />are nine levels, and the shaft is 750 feet deep. <br />" iWork is being carried on at present only on the <br />fourth level; all in the old workings. <br />Hoisting method employed is by r.~eans of buckets. <br />~Cen are. raised and lowered with hoisting rnaehinery, weight <br />of load hoisted, 1,800 ibs., distance hoisted 250 feet <br />at this time. The cable is a 3/4" crucible steel, and has - <br />been in use about .one year. Safety chain and clamps are <br />employed on end of cable, and were changed four months ago. <br />ho safety devices are employed to prevent-over-winding. <br />Material is hoisted from only one level. <br />A 1/4" wire bell line attached to an eight inch gong <br />is employed. The state code of signals is used. Code oP <br />signals is posted only at the collar of shaft. All per- <br />sons are prohibited from riding on loaded bucket;. this <br />order is not posted near collar of shift. All level stations are not provided with passage- <br />way arol~nd working shaft. Shaft at all stations is provided <br />with doors. Shaft is secured. by pills~r of ground upon each <br />side sufficient to insure safety. All winzes or mill holes, <br />are not covered or snrrou.nded ~iith glrard rails. <br />The method of ore extraction is that of overhand <br />stoping, using 2-1/4 Sul~ivan and the Shaw Eclipse <br />machine drills. ~ • <br />The method of timbering employed is tYiat Df stalls, <br />and is insufficient, using.red and white s~~ruce prepared <br />by hand. Conditior. of timbers .is good, exce~~t in the' <br />old workings: <br />Chutes are loaded by gravitation. <br />
