`Ibe Kendrick and Gelder Smelting Company
D. UNWELL,
Supt. of Mines
Sn.VERTON, COLO., Dcc. 31, 1902.
\\'. F. IiDNDI2ICIC,
Prosidant Tlnn ILa~adricla 6• Golder Sneeltting Oo~npavw,/:
DLan 8nr. My report for the quarter ending September 30th, 1902, stated that we encountered the
Henrietta vein in No. 7 level, as predicted, also gave the figures showing its immense size, the~inereased value
of the ore over the ore in the upper workings and the immense tonnage that had been opened, sufficient to
last the company's smelter and the Oliver mills for years, running to their full capacity. -
TLe deve]opmenC work has been prosecuted energetically and continuously during the past quarter and
Lae proven that the ore bodies are even larger than those above. We have completed over two thousand feet
of work in No. 7 level and have drifted in the Henrietta vein over sis hundred feet in length on this level.
This entire distance ie in a continuous body of ore varying from five to over twenty feet in width. The ore
consists of both milling and emeking m•e in about the same proportion as given in former statements, al-
though we have opened since the last reparh the ]¢rgesh and most continuous Lody of smelting ore found in
the mine.
We are pushing the upraise to complete connections Let\veen levels No. 7 and IQo. ?, with all possible
speed. This \vill open connections with the upper workings so that all the big ore reserves above can be
moved to and Chrougb No. 7 level. The connections will also produce thorough ventilation, relieving our.
power blowers, the poe•er of which can then be used Tor running more electric drills. 'fhe mine will then be
in such shape tlmt the only limit to Che amount of m•o that can bo estractod and handled Tram the devel-
oped ore reserves of tike Ilem•iettn will be the capacity of tike trnnspm•talion, milling and smelting facilities.
.Tn addition to pushing the nprnise, e•e are driving ahead into the mountain on the vein in No. 7 and are
oleo driving nm•th on ttta name vein ft•am the point oi' intersenCion of the tunnel with the vein, tvorhing day
and nigLt +vilh e]ecU•ic power drills cottinuously in m~e, and by the time tLe upraise ie completed there will
be sovsrul hundred fret more of drifts opened on the vein, whioh will largely inoreaee the ors reserves.
We m•a oleo ch•iring No. 10 level, farther down the monntuin, which mill cut the Orlo11', Surprise and
1lenriciCn veins in tLe neighborhood of Chrce hundred feet below No. 7 and will also add greatly to the ore
reserves, ae shown in mp hist report.
A little north of iLe nprnlse from No. 7 immal, in exenvnting for a donbla truck for the ore care to
pass, the broke into what e•o had considered the hanging wall and nnCurnlly supposed to ba barren rook, but
Tound instead of a•ul] troth mrothm• body of ore. We have brokmt three mul mte-half feet into it, but until we
moss-cut we emmot Call hoe• midc the new ore is or flit slue of the find.
Ht spanking of tha grenP~ amount of m•a Ohat can bo extracted I 1ntvo 9gurad the Iionriotta vein alone
and Iravc not tnkmt iota consiilcrnlimt tLe ors in the Surprise vein, oT which I etude n statomenCin my last
report, showing the vein i:u be oue hundred mtd ten feet in width, or mm•c than double ilia width of on avor-
ugo city street ae proven by crosao-mttling ib miCh No. 7 tunnel, and w•hlla fha IIcnricttn vain ie one oY great
magnitude the present indlcnlicns are kLnC the Surprise voht in still ]nrgm~ and ono of the largee0 in the
state.
