The above description was <br />Furnished by Mr. Finlay, Manager. <br />In some narrow veins, the mining is done without <br />timbering, by letting the broken rock Pill the scopes, only <br />enough being drawn out to leave room Por the miners to work in <br />the backs, VPhen the atope is worked out, or up to the next. level, <br />the ore is all drawn out, and stops abandoned. The above method <br />implies good vein walla. <br />TIMBERING. <br />The square set syatem of timbering, (sawed lumber) <br />is employed in all drlPts and stopes having a width greater than <br />12 Ft., the atull syatem being employed in those of lean width. <br />Condition of timbers, good, and in all places suPPioient, except <br />those hereinaYter mentioned. The timbers are prepared in timber <br />mill, being mostly red spruce and pine. The loading shoots employ- <br />ed, are the ordinary lip shootq, with lattice, gates. <br />TRAMMING. <br />The underground tramming is done in steel Dare, <br />26 x 42", 28" deep, capacity, 17-1~2 cubic Pt.: end dump. Trackage, <br />12~ rails. <br />DRAINAGE. <br />At the present time, no pumping is being done, <br />owing to the Pact that the water iS standing at a depth oP about <br />1040 Ft „ and as plenty oP ore remains to be handled above that <br />level, the expense of pumping has been abandoned Par the present. <br />The pumping plant is distributed ae Follows;- <br />A Snow, compound condensing pump, capacity 1000 gallons, at 800 <br />level No,l ehaFt. <br />A Knowles, triple expansion pump, capacity 12000 gale. per minute, <br />depth 1000 Ft., installed in station 20 x 64', at 900 level No.l <br />shaft, <br />Other pumps are located on the 1100 level under water, A 6 in, <br />water column, comes up the seat winze to the 900, and out aroes- <br />cut to large station pump, ehowing~ that pumping was done, through <br />winze to 900 level, <br />VENTIIrATION~ <br />Natural system employed, , <br />SANITARY tlONDITIONS, Good, <br />
