' <br />The method of mining is that of overhand stoping, <br />employing 2-1~4 and 3 inch Rand Air Drills, using 90~ <br />air pressure, and single and double hand drilling. <br />The shafts and winzes are timbered with cribbed <br />sets, stopes stalled, and drifts with 3~4 drift sets. <br />Sufficient except in Bismarck. <br />Red spruce and pine, prepared by hand, are <br />employed. <br />The condition of the timbers is fair, though old <br />in places. The company at the present time, is giving <br />much time and attention to the re-timbering of all the <br />old places at present in use, and are doing all that can <br />be desired. <br />The nature of the loading chutes employed, are <br />the side lip. <br />The underground tramming is done in one ton steel <br />..ors .,i,. „~e <br />.,,.-..., ~.^..i,-.,, ,ng u.ra... <br />Trackage consists o3 8, 12, 16 and 20 pound rails, <br />with 16, 18 and 19 inch gunge. <br />The natural system of ventilation is employed, <br />except in Burleigh tunnel, where a I3o. 5 Buffalo exhaust <br />blower, anerated by a 4 H. P, electric motor, and at- <br />tached to a 10 in. pipe line, is installed. <br />The natural system o£ drainage is employed, the <br />water standing in the Seven Thirty shaft up to the 275 ft. <br />level. <br />Sanitary conditions, good. <br />I•;xits. <br />Burleigh tunnel, through Mendota workings. <br />Hercules, 275, Zero, No.l, Pelican, and Diamond <br />tunnels, are connected by vainzes and raises as stated above, <br />and afford exit, which is readily accessible to the employees. <br />The underground lighting is done with candles. <br />
