MINING AND MINE METHODS.
The main opening, is the O'Neil shaft, 4 x 8 in the
clear, 2 compartments, bucket and ladder vray, 878 ft, deep,
The shaft dips to the S, E, ~2 ft, in the first 3O0 ft „ belovr
which, it straightens up to the bottom, The shaft is timbered
with atolls, and square sets; provided with a good bucket
road, skids being 4 x 4's, lagged, and ladder road, with
occasional landings,
The collar of the shaft is located 250 ft, S, i:r, of the
N.E. end line of the O'Neil lade, and. is provided vrith gates
on two sides, the third side being closed by automatic door,
vrhile the 4th side is left open. The shaft has the following
levels running from it:-
Hoisting is done by bucket, attached to a 7~8 in,.
Roebling steel cable, attached to socket and safety chain, same
being changed last September, !7eig~ht of load hoisted, 2500 lbs„
distance hoisted, 86G ft, NOT];. The bucket, an reaching the
surface, engages an arm, which controls an automatic mrrangement
1'or olasing• the door of the shaft, thereby malring it impossible
for anything to fall dovrn the shaft, a:Pter bucket has reached
surface, The shaft is in eharg~e oi' a trammer, vrho employe
the Colorado signal codo, the signals being given either by a
attached to g'ong's, and employing i;he Perine circuit breakers.
All signals, ors given both to engineer and top man, there being
gangs at collar of shaft and in engine room. A7.1 the level
