MINING AND MINE METHODS. <br />The main shaft is 4 feet by 9 feet, timbered with square <br />sets and lined with two inch plrnk. '°hese are five levels. <br />The work is being carried on at the present time on the 4th, <br />5th an3 600 foot levels. <br />All workings are in new ground. <br />The hoisting is done by means of buckets. The men are <br />raised and lowered with the hoisting machinery. The <br />weight hoisted is 1500 pounds., distance hoisted is 600 <br />', feet. <br />j The cable is a 7~8 inch crucible steel. The bucket hook <br />used on the end of the cable 'is a safety chain and clamp. <br />It was more than a year ago that this was changed. fto <br />safety device is employed to prevent ovor-winding. <br />The materiel is hoisted from two levels. <br />The bell line is a 3~8 inch wire line attached to an 8 in. <br />gong. The state code of signals is employed. This code of <br />signals is posted in the engine room, at collar of shaft <br />end at each level station. All persona aro prohibited <br />from riding on loaded bucket. <br />A notice stating the maximum number of men pormitted to <br />ride upon the buaY.et at one time is not posted at collar <br />of abaft and at each level station. 67.1 level stations <br />are not provided with peseago way around working shaft.. <br />The shaft is provided with doors at all stations.
