(Page 2)
MINE ID N OR PROSPECTING ZD k M-84-154
INSPECTIOIJ DATE 11/9/99 ZNSPECTOR'$ Ifi=TIALS A.JW
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Nla ldron of DMG. Patrick Mason of
the City of Lamar was contacted prior to the inspection buC could not attend due to a
pressing work commitment. The site is located approximately 2 miles southeast of Lamar,
Colorado along the west bank of Clay Creek in classic sand and sage rangeland. The City of
Lamar owns a sizeable piece of property in this area that is used in conjunction with their
municipal water supply and storage system and a portion of this mine pit will be added to
that system once mining is completed.
The mine identification sign was properly posted at the mine site entrance as required.
There were a number of t-posts located around an obviously mined area where the pit should
be located, however, the area these posts were enclosing did not seem to match the permit
area as reflected on the mining plan/reclamation plan map. The permit area is basically
trapezoidal in shape and the marking posts did not seem to represent this. Therefore, this
is being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with appropriate corrective
actions which will include locating distinguishable posts or markers at each corner or
direction change around the entire permit area. Since there are numerous other unassociated
disturbances in this area, it is critical to clearly mark the affected area associated with
this permitted activity.
There were numerous small piles of topsoil stockpiles around the mining area. These piles
should be seeded with a temporary seed mix iE they are not going to be replaced soon. The
mining plan map included in the original application did not show the location of topsoil
stockpiles as required and the location of the existing piles appears to be somewhat
haphazard. This is also being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with
corrective actions which will include submitting an updated mining plan map showing topsoil
stockpile locations. Also, the topsoil stockpiles should be consolidated to the extent
possible and located in areas that are out of the way traffic and erosion hazards.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Patrick Mason
OPERATOR City of Lamar
STREET 102 E.
