General Comments
The mining sequence is in the final phase of s ao r as shown in the February 11, 1981 permit
application. They are removing coal from the Hoyle seam at this time. A portion of th8
Sudduth Seam pit has been backfilled. ~ ~
Topsoil is being stripped from portions of the area to be covered by the East Dump. Ditches
have recently been constructed around topsoil stockpiles A and C. The operator was unsure of
the reason for the request for containment ditches around the two piles. In general the
purpose of ditching around topsoil stockpiles is to direct runoff water toward sediment
control systems and to reduce the tendency for pile migration by sloughing.
The inspection was a monthly or partial inspection. Mr. Fred Banta, Senior Reclamation Specialist
accompanied us on the site inspection in order to gain familiarity with mines in North Park.
Both the mine site and proposed Ioadout facility were inspected.
