r <br />Dominant vegetative spades in the Center Ridge area were ricer mBkvetch, affaffa, <br />smooth brume wheatgrass. and smooth brume. In several areas fl was obvkxa that k]rge <br />game had been beddng in the vegetates cover. <br />A loge herd of elk, approximately 200,300, were observed in this area. Mr. Gontarek sdd <br />they are part of the resident herd that forage here and use the nearby aspen groves for <br />cover. A mule deer doe was observed and we also scared up a fawn. Clearly, this area wetl <br />serves the postmining bnduse of w8d6fe habffat. <br />The Center Ridge area drains into the Center Ridge pond. No erosional features a any signs <br />of off-site sedlmentatbn were observed. <br />with of Shoo <br />This area is the upper part of a bnd slide that occurred in 1984, after a Nfe~f{riine bond <br />release application had been approved. DMG required PB.M to rebond 10.5 acres in the <br />upper slide area to cover grading, topsoing and reseeding costs. <br />Grading has been completed, dung the upper scarp. fie area blends in wep wffh the <br />reddened bncfs above ff. Topsol has been reappPed and vegetates cover fs good. <br />Dominant species are ricer rnilkvetch, wheatgrasses and smooth brume. <br />One gully exists in the rwrthem part of this area. PE,M has been monitoring ff for stabUffy <br />since 1992. Straw bales were onchored in the gully and ff appears to be stable. hIo <br />evkience of excessive erosion was apparent. <br />The upper shop faaHies area is included in Bond Release application SLR. the fac~ifles <br />Include: the mdntenance shop, the bathhouse and the truck ban. Also included is a kage <br />open area to the north. The area covers 13.5 acres. The post mining bnd use for these <br />fadittes is corrrrrerclal/indusMal to serve the ranching/ gn~ing ocflvffies. <br />Aground water wel suppies water to the faciities area that is permitted to remain. Power <br />to the fadlities area has been downgraded from heavy Industrid use to that typk:d of <br />forming operotbns. Above ground gas tanks are sh1 being used, sfl they wi stay. <br />The tn~ck wash pond rerrralns, but is scheduled to be removed in the very near future. Pd,M <br />is testing the sludge to detem9ne how to dispose of ff. The pond B expected to be removed <br />in the next couple of weela. PB,M is also completing the removd of the old power Ynes <br />abng the rkige top. A sma0 depnealon exists in the northern part of the graveled area that <br />needs to be graded to blend in wffh the surouncNng area. There ~ also some scattered <br />debris that Mr. GOntarek sold waAd be removed. A faMOw-Up Inspection will be COndUCted <br />to evduate the completion of these activities. <br />Mast of ttds area is grovel covered except for a smal arcukx, vegetated area surrounded by <br />a vehicle tun araxnd In the souffnem part. Surface runoff from thk area flows to the Moffat <br />Area pond. tJo erosiond concerns were noted. <br />Randy Pdr questioned whether the fac~ifles area was still part of a suface cod mining and <br />redamaflon activity. DMG and OSM have both had some questkxre regarding the <br />induaidal/corrxnerdal urns of these facilFies. These im~es wR be dlscu~sed in the next several <br />weeks. <br />
