The weather was dear and warm. The <br />mine site was fafriy dry. The main purpose of tFis inspection was to evduate severd areas <br />where Ptt:M Cod Company has requested bond release. Two separate bond release <br />appicattons have been subrritited. SL-5 Ls an appication requesting find bond release for <br />lands in East Ridge, Center Ridge and South of Shop. SL-6 is an appication requesting find <br />bond release for the upper shop fadHies. Participating in the inspection were &dn <br />Gontarek representing P&M Cod Company, Randy Price representing OSM and myself. <br />The lands requested for bond release in SL5 are lands that were mined under the interim <br />program. However, ftnd reclamation did not occur unto offer permanent program approval <br />and therefore, PB.M included these smaA parceB in their infiid permanent program <br />reclamation cost estimates and their bond calculations. The tiMng (s somewhat unclear as <br />to when they were mined. DMG wil request further infarratton on this in a separate letter. <br />East Ridge <br />PB,M requested Phase III bond release far the East Ridge parcel that covers 37.5 acres. <br />According fo the borxi nslease appYcation this area was remised under the interim program <br />arxf seeded in 1981, offer the Colorado permanent program was effective, August 30, 1980. <br />No topsoi was salvaged at the lime of mining and no topsaal was reapplied to these <br />regraded lands. <br />Vegetation cover on ttds area B excellent. Dominant spades are: wt>eatgrgsses. smooth <br />brorrie and dfatia. Rubber robbitbn~sh is a conxnon sMib throughout the area. A smdl <br />patch of whitetop was observed. P6M has Nred a weed sprayer that w10 be spraying in this <br />ores. Plo infestations of other weeds were observed. One gully was observed on the north <br />faring slope. ff was up to about two feet deep in one spot, but it appears stable with no <br />evidence of recent erosional activity. There is o good vegetative cover growing in most of <br />the gully. The gu11y wil not disrupt the poslMning land use of grating land and wAdltie <br />habtiat. <br />This area drotns into fhe Center Ridge pond. No evidence of erosion was observed, and no <br />spoil springs have been reported in ttds area. <br />A herd of rrxAe deer were observed dir+ectiy to the south of this area in old vegetated spots. <br />Rve bucks were observed, with severd does and fawns. <br />Center Rldae <br />The Center Ridge parcel covers 15.6 aces below the power tlnes and due west of the West <br />Ridge Road. PB,M fs requesting Ph~e II and III bond release for 1hLs area. ACCOrdtng to the <br />appYcafion, this area was mined underihe interim program regulation howeverflnd <br />grading and seeding occurred after the Colorado permanent program became effective. <br />fVO topsoC was sdvaged when the area was first disturbed and fi does not appear any was <br />reapplied. The ground solace is rocky, however the vegetation cover fs very good. <br />
