Underground development waste material has been transported from the Hotchkiss
Coal Yard, and has been stockpiled temporarily in the clean coal stockpile
area. This material will be deposited within the reconstructed bench, in
accordance with the approved permit revision plans.
The culvert crossing of Hubbard Creek has been excavated and reconnected to
correct damage which occurred during last June's melt run-off flood event.
The cleanup of Hubbard Creek is proceeding. Coal which was deposited within
300 ft. of the stockpile has been excavated, and additional lump coal has been
hand picked on Blue Ribbon's permit area. Coal fines deposited in sandbars on
U.S. Steel's adjoining property has yet to be cleaned, because access
negotiations with U.S. Steel are still in progress and, as yet, are
unresolved. Inspection of this area has determined that a ramp already exists
to allow access from the road with a light weight tractor loader, which could
accomplish the excavation with minimal disturbance in a short amount of time.
In this instance, ground freeze may facilitate cleanup by minimizing ground
disturbance.
