III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Additional equipment was being installed at the substation on the upper level bench. Also at that
location, a consultant was on site measuring the noise level of the vent fan.
Gob Pile
There were only four dump truck loads of gob that had been added to the gob pile since the last
inspection. The four piles had not been spread yet.
Freeman Gulch
The operator has begun construction of the Freeman Gulch vent facilities. The site is a former
exploration pad and light use road. The operator has done a good job in minimizing the disturbance for
this project. The road leading to the pad was dry and passable. Some sections of the road are somewhat
.,~, steep and might be difficult to travel in very wet conditions. The operator will put up a water baz across
the road in Freeman Gulch. The original design called for a culvert but the road would need to be built
up first, and this would result in additional disturbance.
The operator is setting up the equipment for construction of the vent shaft. The shaft will be
constructed. from the bottom up. Silt fence and a berm have been added to the down gradient portion of
the pad, as sediment control. An 18 inch culvert has been placed under the road just before it enters the
pad azea.
The operator has put up mine ID signs at the appropriate locations along the Freeman Gulch vent road.
Surface disturbance mazkers have also been put up.
c:\ms97\bowie2\insp0400
