The Bite
is not currently being actively mined, but material ie still being removed from stockpiles
preeent.
1. The sign at the entrance to the site did not display the DMG permit number. This should
be remedied within 30 days, and proof sent to DMG.
2. The boundaries were very clearly marked with pink flags, and matched the compass
directions given on the map. All setbacks from the railroad tracks, property lines and Plum
Creek are being observed. There are no signs that asphalt processing has ever taken place on
site.
3. Topsoil is stored at the site and revegetated (with cheatgraes), however, there may not
be enough material left to complete reclamation. An estimate of how much topsoil ie needed
will be made during the bond estimate re-calculation.
4. Approximately 15 acres of the main pit has been disturbed, and a hole of about 2-3 acres
which moat be filled (according to the permit) is still preeent. The eloping on the main pit
is adequate - about 3:1 to 4:1 - however, the hole ie 8' to 10' deep and consists entirely
of highwalle. Debris ie preeent in the hole, and it moat be demonstrated that the materials
present are "inert" according to the Solid Waste definitions (CDPHE). If they are not, they
ve to be properly disposed of, and written proof that the Operator has done so must be
submitted to DMG.
5. The northern quarter of the permit area has never been disturbed, and could be released
as undisturbed area should the operator wish to apply for release of the area.
6. No reclamation work has been done ae yet. Topsoil needs to be spread, and revegetation
work begun soon, since wind erosion of the main pit ie a concern - the area is extremely
barren, and the surrounding vegetation ie healthy pasture (albeit short, due to a recent
fire).
7. It is believed that the Bite ie underbonded for the amount of area disturbed. The bond
will be refigured in the near future and a new cost estimate sent to the Operator.
I & E Contact Addreee
NAME Jim Sampson
OPERATOR Asphalt Pavinc Co.
STREET 14802 W. 44th Ave.
CITY/STATE/ZIP Golden, CO 80403
cc: Carl H.
