As noted in a previous inspection report dated August 8, 1997 it appears that the primary
commodities mined at the Snowstorm Placer are sand and gravel, which are considered to be
construction materials and therefore subject to the Mineral Rules & Regulations for the
Extraction of Construction Materials. Please respond in writing indicating if this is
correct or if gold is the primary commodity mined. Please see page 3 for details.
8. Prominent vegetation noted growing on historic mine tailings in the southeastern portion
of the permitted area include redtop, several different fescues, bottlebrush squirreltail,
either thickspike or streambank wheatgrass, and an aster species. These species are
considered to be "volunteer" species well adapted to the soil and climatic conditions found
at the Snowstorm Placer. Therefore, the operator should give consideration to adding several
of the desireable species such as redtop and one of the wheatgrasses to the revegetation seed
mix. If a change in seed mix is desired, this may be accomplished through the technical
revision process. However, if the operator chooses to submit an application for a fourth
permit amendment, then this minor change may be included in the revised reclamation plan.
cc: Bill McIntyre, SEO
1313 Sherman.
