:~

General Conments - Continued
No problems were noted with any of the support facilities located at the mine.
Sediment pond extension work has been completed. What was thought to be a
slump at the northeast corner of the pond during the February, 1985 inspection
was actually a pile of excavated material from the area where the pond was
extended. Snow cover during February had made accurate observations
difficult. The pond was being discharged at the time of the inspection. Pond
re-sizing was necessary to accommodate storage capacity for both the 10-year,
24-hour storm event and periodic mine water discharge. The diversion ditch
system above the surface facilities area was functioning properly at the time
of the inspection but needs to be cleaned out as soon as possible in a few
places in order to maintain the designed configuration.
The interim revegetation on the refuse disposal site still contains a stand of
vegetation composed almost entirely of Barley. Few perennial grasses could be
seen. The stand does provide sufficient erosion protection, however.
The drainage control system at the Delta loadout is controlling runoff from
the site. However, some minor improvements need to be made to_maintain the
designed configuration Specifically, the culvert at the road crossing over
e rm on the north side of the loadout needs to be cleaned out at
he outlet end as soon as possible. Additionally, the drainage ditch should
be checked to ensure that a positive gradient exists between the outlet end of
the culvert and the catchment basin. If not, the ditch will need to be re-cut
accordingly. __
The hydrologic monitoring stations at the mine were toured during the
inspection. Given the idle status of the mine at this time and the relatively
intensive monitoring currently being conducted, the operator may wish to
submit a request to the Division along with the upcoming Annual Hydrologic
Report to temporarily suspend monitoring at some of the sampling points and
reduce the frequency of monitoring at other points. The earth material
removed from the location of the recently installed weir below the sediment
pond and piled upslope from the weir needs to be smooth graded, seeded, and
mulched in the near future.
