~~~
... ,..
Major Structures in and Adjacent to Permit Area
Comments: Numerous buildings and structures related to the mining and
milling operation.
Topsoil Handling
Quantity of topsoil being salvaged
Procedures
Proper stockpile location
Stockpile stabilization
Depth of replaced topsoil
Stability
Comments: It was noted that approximately 600-1000 cubic yards of topsoil
were hauled from the open pit area to McNulty Gulch for disposal rather than salvage,
upon seeing this, Ron Zuck put an immediate stop to this activity and directed that
the topsoil be stockpiled in the nearest topsoil stockpile (which is between McNulty
waste rock dump and the topsoil pile being moved).
Revegetation
Vegetation efforts on schedule
Site preparation proper
Fertilization needed
Suitable species
Estimate cover
Poisonous or noxious species
Weed control needed
Livestock -use
Wildlife use
Reseeding necessary
Fencing
Comments: Vegetation efforts are on schedual and appear to have a high
priority on the overall project. The tailing areas are still in use, hence recla-
mation has not started. Slope revegetation has been very successful to date. High
altitude and tailings study plots are being well handled, .the re appears to be
sufficient study results to consider revising the-seed mix and if necessary the
reclamation plan.
Problems
1) Topsoil found in the open pit area 1)
was being disposed of in McNulty Gulch
rather than stockpiling. See comments
under topsoil hauling. This was a one
day violation.
Recommendations
General site description-Comments:
Ron Zuck corrected the problem
immediately. Since there was no evidence
of prior topsoil disposal other than the
morning of July 28, 1981 and the dump
trucks were hauling past the topsoil
stockpile, the staff feels that this
was a communication problem which was
corrected and does not warrent board
action. Also, Ron stated that the top-
soil in question was from an area of
haul road construction in the pit area.
See Role 3 and the remainder of Role 2.
