Elk Creek C-1981-022 15 December 2005 pg 2/2 Processing Waste: -The refuse on the West Valley noted in last month's inspection has been spread and compacted. There are several new piles of refuse on the pile that will need to be spread and compacted. The pile was covered with snow but was stable and there did not appear to be any water pooling on the surface of the pile at the time of the inspection. I spoke with the engineer, Tom Anderson, at length about the construction and stability of the pile. One thing he stated was that he had the area where the refuse was removed and sent to the Bowie No. 2 Mine dug back out and refilled. He indicated that there was not proper compaction of this area so he redid it and it now meets the compaction standard. - The 2-West pile is ready to be used however, to date, no refuse has been placed in the pile. -The East Yard refuse pile was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems were noted on the pile at the time of the inspection. Topsoil: -The Elk Creek topsoil pile was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems were noted. Support Facilities: -The exterior of the lamp house building has been completed. - The Elk Creek facilities area was stable and in good condition at the time of the inspection. - The Sanborn Creek facilities are was also stable and in good condition at the time of the inspection. - The reclaimed Sanborn Creek portal area was stable at the time of the inspection. There was no cracking or settling of the backfill material noted. No erosional problems were noted at the time of the inspection. Air Resource Protection: The operator was working with a dozer on the coal stockpile at the time of the inspection. There were no problems with fugitive dust. The conveyor from the Elk Creek portals to the coal stockpile is covered.
