Portal araa. Vento property. May ZOU4
Transplant species noted included ponderosa pine, skunkbush sumac, mountain mahogany,
and cedar (or possibly tuniper). Areas of transplanting appeared to be as approved by Map
33, Southfield Reclamation Plan dated May 2003. A vehicle traverse around the refuse pile
indicated other transplanted clumps in approved areas- As shown in the photo above. "rabbit
guards" protected some transplants and weed barrier covered the ground around the
transplant. Rocks were used to hold down the weed barrier and the corners of the barriers
were stapled to the ground as well. Other transplants, mostly cedar, had no rabbit guard and
wood chip mulch was used rather that weed barrier. Yet other transplants had a "rabbit
guard" and wood chips as mulch. It appears that a combination of techniques was used with
the approved species.
Seeded grasses are beginning to show significant growth. Annual weeds are also, as is
common in the early years following re-seeding. No noxious weeds were noted. Significant
mulch is also still present.
