north of the pond has a 18" deep gully approx. 20 ft. long. this gully appears to be fairly old
and stable by evidence of grasses growing in the gully.
Pond 15P-8 has a slight puddle in the bottom of the pond. The bottom of the pond is covered
with scotch thistle. Both spillways remain clear and in good repair. The pond embankment does
not show evidence of instability. The east side of the pond has several 2 ft.
deep gullies in the native hillslope. These gullies have been present for several years and do not
appear to be advancing.
Pond 22P-2 is dry, spillways are functional. Emergency spillway has very little rip-rap but pond
rarely hold water.
Pond 22P-17 was not accessible due to heavy vegetative growth and steep slopes.
Pond 22P-10 was dry. ~!o problems noted with this pond.
Ponds 22P-5, 22P-6 and 22P-4 have had the riser's cut in 1995 and do not contain water
beyond puddling of the pond bottom. Ponds 22P-5 and 22P-6 embankments make up the
roadway to the SE portion of the permit area. The landowners required the retention of the
roadway so the pond embankments could not be removed, therefore reduction in the riser height
diminishes the quantity of water retained in the ponds.
Reconstructed drainage south of Del Agua Canyon has held up well. No undercutting of the
riprap or the grouted portions were noted. Del Agua Canyon Bridge has held well since DMG
conducted repair work in 1995. A large gully located south of pond 15P-8 is approximately 8 ft.
deep and 50 yards long still exists. No water is directed to this gully anymore and the gully
does not appear active. Ditches were removed in 1995.
Upland diversion ditches remain in place but all have breached in numerous places and are no
longer viable diversion structures.
The West facing slope and western extent of section 22 fill slopes have a number of gullies
through out. These gullies have been in existence for a minimum of 18 months and probably
have been in place longer. No structures or resources are threatened by these gullies nor do
they appear to be deepening or elongatirig.
Revegetation: Vegetativ:; cover on the section 22 reclaimed areas appear good. This vegetation
is dominated by smooth brome and rabbitbrush is encroaching throughout the section 22 areas.
Section 15 slopes are considerably barer. Section 15 has a southern exposure and thin soils
where as section 22 has Northern, Eastern and Western exposures and adequate topsoil. All
areas that received reclamation work in 1995, Pond 15P-10, Reconstructed drainage, repaired
gully in section 15, are heavily dominated by Scotch thistle. Mine site has been very dry so little
of the permanent seed mix seeded in 1995 has taken hold. Vegetation should be closely
watched this summer to determine if reseeding of these areas should be conducted this fall.
None of the pinyon seedling planted in 1995 could be located, living or dead stems. Penstamon
is blooming on the western portions of section 15. Cattle have been grazing throughout the
permit area.
Offsite Facilities: The load out in Trinidad remains clear of debris. Load out was dry with no
evidence of drainage problems; gullying or ponding.
