'~ <br />~:e oe_^ni _. <br />4.05 Hydrologic Balance <br />Drainage from the coal storage area was not reaching the sediment pond. Due to <br />exceptional amounts of coal that has been deposited in the storage area the ditch <br />which is supposed to intercept runoff from the area and send it, via a culvert, <br />to the pond has been completely filled in and the inlet end of the culvert has <br />been buried. The diversion ditch behind the piles that is to divert undisturbed <br />drainage around the coal storage area has been largely filled in also. Both <br />of these ditches must be cleaned of coal and reestablished and the culvert end <br />exposed. <br />The damaged end of culvert 111 has been cut off and both ends are open. The ditch <br />leading from this culvert to pond 1l2 is functional. <br />The dewatering device to the large pond is not clogged although ice covers most <br />of the pond. <br />Wnrk still remains to be done on the upper diversion ditch above the portals. The <br />10" CMP is stockpiled at the site but has not been installed. The berm at the <br />top of the benc}~f~as disappeared in places and coal and other debris }ias spilled <br />over the bench. This is largely due to the settling of the face of the bench <br />(see below). Water levels are being monitored in the drill holes on the bench. <br />A french drain is still planned in order to alleviate bench instability problems. <br />4.09 Disposal of Excess Spoil <br />The operator is still using the plan described in the .}anuary 6, 1982 letter <br />from Tom Gillis to Bruce Collins regarding temporary storage and hauling of <br />underground waste rock to the disposal site at the Red Canyon Afine. There was <br />a small amount of this material stored next to the coal pile on the bench. Some <br />high ash coal was being stored in the lower coal storage area but it is being <br />retained to be sold. <br />At this time only a very few truckloads of waste material }ias been hauled away. <br />The amount of material being generated is fairly small. <br />
