Backfillmct and grading
The smallest of the three draglines at this site is located in the East Pit where it is conducting
reclamation activities. The current plan is for backfilling and grading to be complete by the
end of this year in this area. The dragline was down for maintenance on this day.
TOpSOiI
Topsoil laydown was observed in the East pit. A scraper vas moving stockpiled topsoil from
stockpile 15J to regraded areas to the southeast in accordance with the plan as shown on
approved Map 28 of the permit, Other topsoil was observed west of 15J stacked in piles on
regraded areas awaiting spreading with dozers
Revegetation
Areas of one and three year-old reclamation were traversed on foot, These would be areas
noted on the 2005 ARR Map, Exhibit 7 as seeded 2005 and 2003, respectively Seeding is
done in the fall of the year and annotated on the map for each parcel The mine did not
seed any areas in 2004, consistent with the map and the 2004 ARR reporting form.
A portion of the 96.7 acre parcel EP046 was traversed on foot. This spring and early
summer was extremely dry Grasses and a few forbs were present but were relatively small
given the fact that the growing season is nearly over for this season, Many small shrubs
were noted, including bitterbrush, sage, and four-wing saltbush The shrub success may be
die to the limited success and reduced competition from grasses and forbs.
Annual weeds are
a large component
of the vegetation
on parcel EP046
which is normal
and expected (see •
photo at nghh No ~ ~; . ~ ,~ `
noxious weeds ~~~,~ 1, - ,.• ~~ h~ 1At~~" - '+
were noted. in ' : '~ .,.~X •T ...~ ~ •';;•^ ~, J
i ~ ~ ,
Design plans 'or ;.}~ i ~~ ~u~' ~ . ~> .» `
ponds in South ` ~' ?- ` .' ~~
~..• .i ~ ~2. ,,. tier ~ . * y~i~
Taylor are ~ ~ ~ + ; ~t ~ ,-:r~'qi ~yy~: - ~~
• .~ p
~ - n. ~ ~R
currently based on _, ~ "'°ir ~~ If ., ,~f~.~,.. -~^ ~~.~ ~ ,4 ~ k,~
a worst-case ~, ~s~T' ~~+t ~ r ~ M ~ ~ ~~a' ~,2 fC
runoff condition •, }~^ij ,~" '' '- `' ~trp '` "" ` f'
that includes larch '~~'~ ,~~.i ~,C. ; x"z - -• ~~~i~.4,.r'~~~;.~;~ `~
areas of one ;i ,:i ~. ~Ya .fir -.•'` "..~~,, ~• ~ ice, ~Q
., ~ ?
two year-old " i..-~ ~ ~ ' ~ ..' ~,^ .~ t ~ K- ' } ,~tl~' ~ 1, .• `°`~+y~~'Y':M..
y . r..
AIthOUgh thrt~ i. ,~ t ~.xh~~' ~~-~s~°~S~"~~~ ~u'°~'•'~,~~.'a,~y~~l~~ ~,t.~i~m ~'-.. ~w
year-old reclar>,e;;
parcel EP044 showed excellent establishment of grasses and forbs. parcel EP046 had a
perennial vegetation component of 10-15% at best and litter cover was minimal.
