(Page 2)
MINS ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1979-191
INSPECTION DATE S/01/03 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
0888RVATIONB
This was an inapection of the Three Bella Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Kevin Moore of Lafarge was present during the inapection.
A 117 Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued on October 13, 1981. The site is located 2
miles southeast of Timnath is Larimer County, Colorado. The permit area encompasses 360
acres, but only one pit (out of six) has been mined and reclaimed. The Division currently
holds a bond in the amount of $60,000.00.
Pit #5 was mined in 1999, and has since been reclaimed to a groundwater Iake.~ ,The pond is
approximately 74 acres in sine. Pond elopes are 3h:ly or less, and well vegetated with
perennial grasses. The operator will need to demonstrate compliance in regard to water
rights, and provide the Division with an approved augmentation plan or substitute water
supply plan issued by the Division of Water Resources, Office of. the State Engineer.
Demonstration of compliance with the OSE must be submitted by July 75, 7003. The reclaimed
pond configuration is different than what was approved in the reclamation plan. The operator
will need to submit a revision to the permit depicting the actual configuration of Pond #5.
The revision moat be submitted no later than July 75, 7003.
According to Lafarge's aerial photograph, an area immediately north of Pond #5 was affected
by mining. It does sot appear that the area was mined, only graded on the surface. The
operator failed to revegetate this area, thus allowing annual weeds to dominate the site.
The operator will need to control the weeds and revegetate the disturbed area either this
spring (if time allows) or no later than this fall with the approved seed mixture. Proof of
compliance moat be submitted in the form of receipts or photographs by November 71, 7003.
overburden material and topsoil piles have been stockpiled on the south and west end of the
permit area. It is unclear how this material will be used for reclamation since a majority
of Pit #5 has been reclaimed. The remainder of the Bite has not been affected by mining.
According to the operator, additional wetland and wildlife habitat studies must be conducted
before the other areas are mined. In addition, Lafarge may eventually amend the permit to
include a parcel immediately west of ponds #5 and #6.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CS
NAMfi Mary Harnett ^ HL
OPfiRATOR Lafarge Weat Inc.
