It was noted that there was no sign which
identified the e~plosive storage area at the entrance to the facility. Such a sign
should be installed to identify the facility.
The third topsoils stockpile (which was active recently) should have a marker installed.
It may otherwiselbe unclear to workers in the vicinity of the area that the material
must not be dlsturbed'.
4.03 Roads
Road surfaces were dry and well maintained. Some vegetation (primarily dead thistle)
was accumulating in some parts of the drainage system. This vegetation should be
cleared wherever uch accumulations would result in blockage of the drainage and possible
breach of the dra~naee ditch.
The culvert beneakh the road in the vicinity of the waste disposal area has been cleared
of blockage whichlwas noted in previous inspection reports.
Some gullies have formed on the outslope of the road near the waste disposal area (below
the wash plant). These gullies do not appear to be a result of surface runoff but
appear to be due o failure of the embankment material. Dorchester should consider
filling these are~s to prevent further erosion and should attempt to stabilize the
material through stablishing some kind of vegetative cover.
No water has accumulated in sediment ponds. All aspects of the sediment control system
were intact and functioning with the exception of accumulated vegetation in some drainage
ditches as mentioned above.
4.06 Topsoil
The third topsoil stockpile in the topsoil storage area must have a.~~marker installed.
Dorchester should also consider seeding the pile in as timely a manner as possible to
protect it from possible erosion (see section 4.15,Revegetaion,of this report).
