TTI. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />This was a complete inspection. conducted by Joe Dudash of Colorado DMG. Basil Bear <br />represented the operator. The mine temporarily ceased coal minine operations in <br />December of 1997. However. reclamation activities continue. Also. the loadout is <br />operatine. Presently. the loadout is receivine only Bowie No. 2 coal. The stockpiled <br />Bowie No. 1 coal will be shipped out at a later date. The mine is experiencine some <br />delays in settine enoueh coal cazs for coal shipments. The operator has hired some <br />additional help for enviro~unental compliance work. <br />Mine ID sins were up at the appropriate places and contained the correct information. <br />Distwbed area marker sie_ns were u_p around the minesite. Topsoil stockp_ ile sim_ s were <br />also present. <br />SEDIMENTATION PONDS <br />Ponds 1. 2 and 3 contained only a small amount of water. Pond 4 was dry. The Bate valve <br />for pond 4 was closed while the Bated valves were open for ponds 1. 2 and 3. The pond <br />bin walls appeared to be stable. Spillways were functional. <br />The West Ridee waste pile pond contained a little water. about 3 feet below discharee. <br />The discharee tubes were cleaz. The ROM pile pond was nearly dry. The Bate valve was <br />closed. Both ponds had well veeetated inslopes and outslopes. The water level in the <br />West Mine pond was 3 feet below dischare_ e. S_pillwav_ s were functional and the <br />embanlanent appeared to be stable. <br />The pond at the loadout was dry. The bin wall was stable and s_pillwav_ s were functional. <br />There was only a little water in the hiehwav stockpile pond. <br />CULVERTS. DITCHES AND BERMS <br />The culverts around the minesite were functional. althoueh a few could use the inlets <br />cleaned of recent rock fall. The inlet to culvert M. at the temporary coal stockp_ ile. and the <br />inlets to three culverts on the road to the West Mine need a little maintenance to clear out <br />
