INSPECTION REPORT -2-
FILE N0. 83-39
DATE: June 17, 1983
There are houses on either side of the disturbed area. These houses may
suffer from the servere erosion problems at this site.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The site is in need of reclamation.~t would be a good site to work off
the $3,000.00 civil penalty.
2. While on site, I discussed reclamation with Mr. Hainlen. Some of the
most needed areas for reclamation, I felt, are as follows:
A. Level the perimeter slopes of the extraction area and slope the level
area so that there is better drainage.
B. The gullies should be sloped and fit into a drainage plan. It's
possible that riprap may be needed in the larger gullies.
C. Soil amendments would be needed since topsoil seems to be scarce.
D. The SCS should be consulted on the reclamation, unless the job is
contracted to someone familiar with reclamation in this area.
3. Amore specific plan for land reshaping should be submitted to the
Division before work is done.
4. The two grass species (littlebluestem and sideoats 9rama) proposed
are excellent, but success would be enhanced with additional species. The
Division suggests the following:
Drill Broadcast
Little Bluestem 30% 2.3 lbs/acre 4.6 lbs/acre
sideoats Grama 30% 3.6 7.2
Slender Wheatgrass 30% 3.2 6.4
Yellow Sweetclover 10% 1.0 2.0
100% 10.1 lbs/acre 20.2 lbs/acre
/ep
(1/83)
Doc, No. 153
