MENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology (Division). This processing and loadout site has been inactive since June 2001
after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). Snow cover was present mostly in
shaded areas. The weather was breezy and mild.
Hydrologic Balance
The operator has removed approximately three acre-feet of sediment from pond 8. The
material is being added to the remaining available area on the Development Waste Pile.
Support Facilities
A bond release inspection was conducted
in June 2005 for Surety Release No. 2
(SL-02) As a result of that inspection, a
short list of items were identified to be
resolved prior to the Division's decision on
the bond release. One remaining task to
be completed was removal of a small
building on the SW coal stockpile area.
The building and foundation have now
been removed and the area regraded to
the final, post-mining topography (at right).
Between 6 and 9 acre-feet of sediment (estimate) remain in the pond. Along with this project
to remove this sediment, the operator will repair the west side conveyor ditch and it's
intersection with the east downdrain. Also, the gullies above the conveyor culvert will be
repaired prior to equipment moving to the Lorencito Canyon site.
