After thinking about it, I believe the best approach for us is for me to write to each active mining claim, based on your records, notifying them that evidence indicates some type of chemical spill or release of polluted ground water by mining activities in the Red Arrow Basin. It is also my intent to privately sample the stream on a regular basis to monitor upstream mining activity. I would intend to tell all of the active operations that I will be regularly mon- itoring the stream. Because of the lack of state personnel and funding to aggressive- ly pursue such point sources of pollution, I see no option but to carefully document what has occurred and then monitor future occurrences. Please forward to me a list of names addresses and contact persons, of all mining activities in the East Mancos drainage area above my property. To assist you in determining the bound- aries of the east Mancos area, I have zeroxed U.S. G.S. quadrangle maps and indicated the probable drainage area boun- daries on them.
