INSPECTION REPORT
DATE: November 30, 1994
MINE: Meadows
PERMIT NO.: C-81-029
COMPANY: Sun Coal Company, Inc.
10200 West 44th Ave.
Suite 120
Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033
INDIVIDUALS PRESENT DURING THE INSPECTION:
Dan Ellison, Sun Coal, Records Review Only
Susan Burgmaier, Division of Minerals and Geology
Russ Porter, Office of Surface Mining
This was a complete random sample oversight inspection of the
above referenced mine. The weather during the inspection was
cloudy and cold with ten to sixteen inches of snow on the
ground.
The Meadows mine is an inactive site that has been reclaimed
with the exception of the facilities area. Since the site is
inactive the snow cover made access difficult and compliance
or noncompliance of most of the performance standards could
not be determined.
RECORDS REVIEW
PERMIT: The current permit, which is for reclamation only, was
issued on August 9, 1993 and expires on August 9, 1998. There
has been a Phase I bond release on the upper area of the mine
and the mine haul road has been granted a final release.
AVAILABILITY OF PUBLIC RECORDS: The Routt county courthouse
has a copy of the mine plan which was prepared in 1985.
Current information such as the reclamation permit and
decision documents and permit revisions are not at the
courthouse. The complete file that is nearest the mine is in
the office of Dan Ellison, located in Steamboat Springs. This
is a private office. The Colorado Rules are less effective
than the Federal Regulations in regards to this requirement
and the Division is working to correct this problem.
3
